Dear SSM Community of Faith,
In the month of March, we begin the church season called Lent. We might think of Lent as a season of change, a time for turning things around, or perhaps a time for getting back on the right path. During Lent, you might hear the word repentance used often. It means to turn around or go in a new direction. Lent lasts for 40 days (not counting Sundays). It all begins with Ash Wednesday worship on March 2nd. Worship on Ash Wednesday will take place at 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
For the Wednesdays during Lent (3/9, 3/16, 3/23, 3/30, 4/6) there will be midweek worship at 6:45 pm. We will be singing Holden Evening Prayer.
Recently after worship I asked, “Do you like to break things?” There was a little chuckle among some, but I was being serious. Our 2022 Lenten theme will be brokenness. For Ash Wednesday or the first Sunday in Lent I invite you to bring an old plate that can be broken. On the plate you will be invited to write down a place in your life where you feel like there is brokenness. The plates will be broken and the pieces will be used to create a cross that will be displayed at Easter.
The theme of brokenness will permeate our weeks of Lent:
Brokenness of Sin (Ash Wednesday March 2)
Brokenness of Self (March 6)
Brokenness in Family (March 13)
Brokenness in Community (March 20)
Brokenness in the World (March 27)
Healing of Brokenness (April 3)
I look forward to the journey together!
Peace,
Pastor Brian
